Our Adoption Process

Potential adopters must be 21 years old or older

  • Fill out an adoption application so one of our volunteers can complete the pre-screening process. You can expect one of our volunteers to email you within 7-10 business days for additional info, as well as asking for home check photos.

An application does not mean the pet will be on hold for you. We are not first come, first serve and at any point between submitting an application and getting to the phone interview the pet may have been adopted out already.

  • Our application processor will send you a link to set up a phone interview with one of our volunteer adoption coordinators. during this phone interview our coordinator will gather more info on your household, and what you are looking for in a new best friend.

At this step the pet you applied for may not be available, and an interview does not guarantee adoption of the pet your applied for.

  • The adoption coordinator will email you to let you know if you were approved/Pre-approved. If you are approved for a certain pet then we will obtain a $100 non-refundable deposit that is deducted from the final cost of the adoption fee as this allows us to know you are serious about the pet you were approved for as we pull the pet off the website and discontinue applications for that animal while they are pending adoption for you.

  • We will email you with Meet and greet information once our meet and greet schedule had been made. If you are adopting a dog your whole household (including resident dogs) must attend the meet and greet. If adopting a cat just your household must attend the meet and greet. The location of the meet and greet is determined by out volunteers and fosters but will be in central CT.

  • Prior to your meet and greet, we will send the adoption agreement contract as well as the remainder of the adoption fee. These must be signed and paid 24 hours prior your meet and greet, as our volunteers do not have access to this during the meet and greet to double check everything is set. If for some reason the meet and greet did not work out as the pet was not a good fit for your family we will refund you within 24-48 hours. If the meet and greet ends and you bring the pet home, then adoption fee is no longer refundable for any reason.

Our Adoption Policies

  • Screening

We carefully screen each applicant looking for consistent vetting history, resident pets are fully vaccinated, on monthly preventive, and spayed/neutered. We ask for photos of your home to check for any possible items that could be a danger to a new pet. We conduct a one-on-one phone call interview where we follow up with more information.

  • Indoor only homes

We only adopt to to those who will only provide indoor shelter for their pets, and will treat their adopted pet as a family member. We do not allow any pets to be left outside when their guardian is not home.

  • Spay/Neuter

Though most of our puppies get fixed prior adoption, there is a chance that the puppy you adopt may not be fixed prior adoption. You will be under contract to get them fixed before 6 months old. We will make the appointment for you in CT with one of out vet clinics , and cover the cost. If you choose to utilize your own vet we do not reimburse the fees . There is no exception to this policy.

  • Finding the right fit

Our volunteers and fosters reserve the right to call off the adoption at any point of the meet and greet if they determine that it is not a good fit. Not every match is perfect.

  • Not first come, first serve

Our volunteers work hard to ensure our adopters get the pet they are interested in, but some pets receive multiple applications. We can't guarantee you'll match with the pet you wanted, even once you're a pre-approved adopter

  • Approval

Once our team screens and approves your application, it is valid for up to 6 months. We do not respond to facebook messages in regards to your application status. Please only reach out to the adoption coordinator that conducted your interview.
